The average salary of a woman in the computer science field depends on the type of discipline such as: web developer, software engineer, programmer. It also depends on where you work and how much experience you have. The average salary for a woman in the computer science field is between $48,214 and $105,478. Compared to the average salary of women and men, women earn 88% of money and men earn 100% of money, for example: for every dollar men make each hour, women make 88 cents each hour. This is not equal payment. This gap of payment becomes worse: “In addition, the pay gap only gets worse as women dedicate more time to their careers.” (Davidson). Although the difference in pay is bad, women can still earn up to $100,000-$200,000: “A computer science student may only start off with $60,000 a year, but they can work their way up to $100,000 or $120,000 a year within four to five years.” (What). Based on the chart below, work in the computer science field earns the highest salary: “Computer science majors have the highest average starting salary projection among master’s degree graduates from the college Class of 2015, according to NACE’s January 2015 Salary Survey. The survey found that starting salaries for Class of 2015 master’s degree graduates in computer science average $71,140.” (Computer). The difference in salaries of women and men could have to do with the fact that there are not many women in the field. This is why we need more women, for equal pay.
